You can join Juxsee and create a store quickly and simply by providing us with some basic details.

Link your bank account

Before you start selling your artworks, you’ll naturally want to get paid. To do this, you’ll need to link your bank account to your Juxsee profile. For this, you’ll need your account number and associated information required in your home country. You won’t be able to upload products until you’ve provided us with these details.

Basic details

For starters, choose to create an Artist account. Enter your email address and choose a password.

Enter your billing address details

As you would with any other merchant site you’ve used. Then enter your card details and hit Next. You’ll need to enter your ‘Verified by VISA’ details’ before you’re sent to the next screen.

Name your store

This is fairly self explanatory. Choose a brand new store name or use an existing one. Hit the Next button.

Upload a store banner

Use imagery to create a recognisable look for what is ultimately your storefront. We’ll also use this image when featuring you on the home page (unless you’d prefer another) so go for high res and high impact. Suggested size at least 1500px x 500px.

Verify your account

We use the payments system Stripe to handle all transactions on Juxsee. To verify your Juxsee account you’ll need to set up an account with Stripe. This means you’ll need to provide some personal and ID info to get things rolling. You’ll be redirected to Stripe from Juxsee and then returned to Juxsee once you’re done. If you get stuck there are contact details you can use for assistance.

Upload a profile image

Either a shot of yourself or an established icon for an existing store. As long as it doesn’t offend and is appropriate to the site, the choice is yours. Suggested size 200px x 200px.

Artist bio

What’s your story? This is where you can tell the community and potential buyers about yourself and your work. Include information such as your discipline, experience and past exhibitions. What and who are your influences, which themes do you explore through your work or, simply, why you do what you do.

ORDERS
Orders

When someone buys one of your artworks, you’ll get a notification on your Dashboard. It will take you to your Orders page for details. You’ll see information about who bought your artwork and where you need to ship it to.Once you’ve packed your artwork and have posted it to the buyer, you can mark it as shipped (see Shipping below for more details on this). The buyer will receive a notification that it’s on the way. If you need to communicate with the buyer for any reason, their contact information will appear on your Orders page too.

DASHBOARD
Dashboard

This is where you can view and control your activity on Juxsee. You can see how many people have visited your store, how many ‘likes’ you’ve collected on your artworks, your orders and messages from buyers and other artists. You’ll also be notified of elements in your store that still need to be set up, such as your cover image, bio or payment details. There is a link to your store in the top right corner of the Dashboard so you can see your updates quickly and make adjustments if necessary. The Dashboard also allows you to monitor your account balance and view any new orders for your work.

ADD ARTWORKS TO YOUR STORE
Add Art

To start adding artworks to your store, hit ADD NEW ART.

Add images

Photographing your artworkMost of us don’t have professional photographic equipment, but you won’t need it to get good quality photos of your work on the site. A decent smartphone or digital camera will suffice. The things to aim for are adequate light, composition and volume. The Juxsee system compresses images so you can upload hi-resolution photos – within reason. Huge files will obviously take a long time to load, reducing the experience in your store.

Add the title of your artwork

What’s the title of your piece? If part of a series, indicate with a numerical figure and/or explain in the description. If your piece doesn’t have a name, you can use Untitled.

Price your artwork

If this is your first time selling your work or you’re just not sure how to price it, a good idea is to research the market. What are other artists who produce work in a similar style or medium charging? Check prices by size of artwork. More established artists might charge more for their work but this is not always the case. You can also change the price of your artwork at any time, so if you think you might have charged too much, you can always reduce the price. Similarly, if your artworks are flying off their digital shelves, you can up the price accordingly.

Add a short description

This is a brief summary of the artwork, including things like a description of the composition, date of creation, material etc.

Add stock

This section is relevant if you are selling prints and have more than one of the same artwork. Add the number here. IMPORTANT POINT: Keep an eye on your stock, particularly if you sell the same artwork on more than one site. Be sure to update your stock regularly so that a buyer doesn’t purchase the artwork of their dreams, only to find you have already sold it to someone else.

Add the artwork description

This is where you can add as much information as you like to describe the artwork (to a maximum of 250 characters). Details about inspiration, the creative process, anything you think is relevant to the buyer can be included here.

Add the medium

For example, oil on canvas.

Add size and orientation

Select the size of the artwork from the drop down box (an approximation is fine) and the orientation of the piece (e.g. landscape, portrait).

Add tags

These are particularly useful for getting your artwork found on the site. Add the words you would associate with your artwork, specifically those that help to describe the style of the piece.

Publish your artwork

The final and crucial step. Make sure you hit the orange PUBLISH button to put your artwork in your store. Alternatively, you can save it as a Draft and come back to it later. When you return to your Artworks page, you’ll see the artwork in place.

Add shipping details

This is divided into three zones – Domestic, Europe and Rest of the World. You need to set the price for what it costs to ship your artwork and the time it will take for the zone you are shipping to.

Choose a category

Is it Painting, Graphic, Photograph..? If your category is missing select the closest one and then let us know – we’ll look into getting it added.

Subscription payment options

Choose which method of subscription payment you prefer. It’s £9/month or £90/year (the equivalent of two months free subscription).

Payouts

Payouts are payments that have been released to your account. When a buyer pays you, the money is held in escrow (a waiting room for cash) for a 14-day period, or until the buyer marks as received. This provides sufficient time for you to arrange shipping and as a method of protection for buyers. When the 14 days are up, we release the funds to you.

PAYMENTS
Payments

Your Payments page shows all the details related to your money on Juxsee, including Account Balance, what Payments you have coming up, as well as:

Stripe verification

We use the payment system Stripe for all transactions on Juxsee. You’ll need to verify your account through Stripe and you’ll be prompted to do so when setting up your Juxsee account.IMPORTANT POINT: While we don’t take a commission from artists on Juxsee, the payment provider does take a pinch – this works out to 2.9% + 20p. This is a transaction fee. Not our idea but one we have to live with.

SUBSCRIPTION

SHIPPING
What happens when I sell my artwork?

As outlined in the Orders section, when you sell an artwork, you’ll receive a notification on your Dashboard.

Packaging your artwork

The way you package your item for shipping will obviously depend upon the type of artwork it is e.g. painting, print, sculpture etc.Let’s start with the basics:Flat artworks (prints and paintings)If your artwork can be rolled up, then this is the most convenient way of shipping. You’ll need a hard cardboard postal tube with plastic lids at both ends, acid-free tissue paper and packing tape.Take your artwork and lay it art side down on the tissue paper, ensuring the tissue paper is slightly larger than the artwork. Fold some of the tissue paper over the edges of the artwork and gently roll up the artworkCarefully tuck the ends of the tissue paper into the ends of the rolled artworkInsert the rolled artwork into the postal tube. You can also scrunch up a ball of tissue paper to put at either end of the inside of the postal tube to prevent the edge of the artwork getting creased or crushed while in transitFit the plastic lids and tape down in a cross pattern at either end Framed artworks or backed canvasesFor these types of pieces you’ll need to buy a cardboard box or fashion your own – whatever provides adequate protection for the artwork. You’ll also need bubble wrap, cardboard corner protectors, acid-free tissue and packing tape.Wrap the artwork in acid-free tissue paper, followed by a single sheet of bubble wrap, taping it down securely (not to the artwork) so that it doesn’t unravel in transitAdd cardboard corner protectors to the corners and then either tape them down. We recommend using another sheet of bubble wrap to wrap the artwork againInsert the wrapped artwork inside the cardboard box. To ensure there is no movement inside the cardboard box, you can stuff bubble wrap into the ends and down the sides or wrap another layer of bubble wrap around the artwork. If you’re creating your own cardboard box this will be less of an issue as you’ll be cutting cardboard to sizeUse packing tape to seal the ends thoroughlyClearly mark the package as FRAGILE or, even better, use tape with this text printed on it. This is widely available online and in art storesSculpturesYou’ll need a packing crate and plenty of bubble wrap. Wood or hard plastic would be our recommended materials for crates. Cardboard boxes, even if your sculpture is light, aren’t really up to the task.Unless you’re a dab hand at DIY, buying a wooden packing crate – widely available online – is probably the quickest and easiest option. Be sure to measure your artwork, allowing for bubble wrap and any other protective material you plan to secure your sculpture with.

Organise shipping

You will have already inserted shipping details when adding an artwork to your store, specifying what it costs to ship your artwork and the time it will take for the zone you are shipping to. The buyer will see this when purchasing the artwork. If you’re unclear about any of the details, we urge you to get in touch with the buyer and ensure you know where the artwork is going.
